from the physical shelves 1: august 2026
I've been making an effort to get through all of the pysical books that live in my house (I posted about it here), so I thought it might be fun to write little accountability posts as I slowly make progress with my TBR. There is no set number of how many physical books I need to read each month, but I do try for at least 2.

A Bruxa do Sul by Redmoon Diana Melinoe (Nonfiction Witchcraft)
This works as a good reference for people who are starting in witchcraft. That's not my case. The title references specifically the Southern Hemisphere, so I expected many more adaptations and content on that. The book didn't deliver.

Very hyped on social media. Also very bad.
Of Blood and Bones: Working with Shadow Magick & the Dark Moon by Kate Freuler (Nonfiction Witchcraft)
Very interesting read with a bunch of information that I personally won’t use, but that is very helpful to know! I really liked Freuler's perspective when it comes to hexes and curses and the times they are appropriate.
The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong Vol. 2 by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (Xianxia/Queer Fantasy... Parody?)
It's been years since I last read the first volume, so this was very much in order because I needed cheering up. It still holds up when it comes to laughter and romance and shenanigans! Shen Yuan's slow realization of Binghe's feelings for him are chefs kiss.
Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster by Svetlana Alexiévich (Nonfiction History)
I hardly know what to say. It is so important to gather perspectives like these for posterity. The memories and emotions surrounding the tragedy add a human touch (naturally) to something many people view only from a distance. Very sad, but necessary.
